  • What is a cold pressed oil?

When oil is extracted from the raw materials using the traditional methods like wooden mill, at lower temperatures, without using any chemicals, it is termed as a cold pressed oil.

  • What is a refined oil?

A refined oil is the ´purified´ form of a crude oil. The stored crude oil is treated with acid or alkali, or bleached. It is heated at higher temperatures, as high as 240 degree Celsius. It is also neutralized, filtered or deodorized in order to get the end product, which is termed as refined oil.

  • Why prefer cold pressed oils over refined oil?

Unlike refined oil, cold pressed oil has

    - Premium high quality seeds
    - Natural fragrance
    - No chemicals
    - No preservatives

  • What are the benefits of cold-pressed oils?

    Cold pressed oils

    - Retain the aroma, flavor and the nutritional value of the seeds they are extracted from
    - Are rich in antioxidants
    - Contain lowest trans fats
    - Help reducing body cholesterol
    - Help stabilizing blood-sugar level

  • What are the shortfalls of refined oils?

Since refined oils are treated with high temperatures and chemicals, they

    - Contain the effects of the harmful chemicals
    - Contain a lot of trans fats
    - Do not retain the natural goodness of the seeds they are extracted from
    - Harmful for health when used daily/frequently

  • Why the cold pressed oils are so highly priced over the refined oils?

As cold pressed oils are extracted using traditional methods, without using any heat or chemicals, the process to extract the oil takes longer time and the yield is much lesser as compared to the refined oils, they are more expensive than the refined oils.

  • Why are the cold pressed oils not clear but have particles in it?

Natural sedimentation or cloth filtering is used and no chemicals are used in order to filter the extracted oil. Hence, a cold pressed oil contains some particles from the seeds it is extracted from, which also gives a natural aroma to the oil.

  • Which oil is best for health?

Undoubtedly, a cold pressed oil is the best choice for your health.

  • Which oil should be used in daily cooking?

Several oils like coconut oil, groundnut oil, safflower oil, sesame oil etc can be used for cooking for different kinds of cuisines and cooking styles. Instead of using only one kind of oil, using different types of oils for cooking is recommended.

  • Can the cold pressed oil be used for deep frying?

The only cold-pressed oils that can be used for deep-frying (but only once) are Groundnut or Safflower or Coconut oil (Coconut oil is resistant to oxidization), because they have a boiling point at 160 °C  and smoke point at 230 °C.

  • Can the cold pressed oil be re-used after used for deep frying?

We DO NOT recommend reusing of the oil. Because any oil that is exposed to oxygen and moisture at more than 180 °C for more than 1 hour starts oxidisation. When the oil is reused, it reaches the smoking point faster than the earlier time it is used; hence degrading the quality of the food, it is cooked in.

  • What are the other uses of cold pressed oils apart from cooking?

Cold pressed coconut oil and sesame oil can be used for oil pulling. Oil pulling is a practice of swirling oil around your mouth and then spitting it out. Oil pulling done with cold pressed coconut oil and sesame oil helps in killing harmful bacteria, reducing bad breath, preventing tooth cavity and reducing inflammation of gums.
